“The New Neighbor”
by Ember Walker
One brisk, gloomy day, during the month of October, on Halloween day, there lived a family. The family lived in an ordinary house. In the family there was a mom, a dad, a daughter named Sophia, A brother named Jack, and a baby sister named Katie.
“Sophia, It’s time for your chores,” mom told me. I have always felt like Jack has been the favorite. “Jack, what are you going to dress up as for Halloween?” I said while I lazily washed the dishes. Jack told me he was going to be a pumpkin, like a Jack-O-Lantern, and he even told me mom said it was adorable. Total suck-up, am I right?! We went to get our Halloween costumes out of the car, and I saw a strange looking person sitting on the front porch of the house next door. That was the new neighbor that just moved in. After we got changed, the first house we went trick-or-treating at was the house next door, with the anomalous man that was sitting on the porch. My mom was getting our little sister Katie changed into her costume, so me and my brother went up to the old man’s porch, while we waited on mom, and we said, “Trick-or-Treat!” The old man had many children in his house, but they all seemed invisible, in a way. It was very, very, strange. The old man said he didn’t hear us, and he asked for us to come closer, and closer, until we were a few inches away from his face. The old man kept inhaling really deeply; it was very strange and weird. It felt like our souls were getting sucked out of our bodies. Little did we know, that’s what was really happening. I don’t know how he did it but somehow he did. Me and my brother got trapped in his house for all of eternity.
Those poor children got their spirits sucked out of their bodies. The old man stored all the bodies under his house, and he stored all of the souls in his house, to be trapped, and never, ever escape again! The old man has been doing that for many years to come, and for the rest of the family, he soon came and called the cops on them and blamed the family for all the murdered bodies, so the family got sent to jail for something the old man did, and the baby got sent to a new home. Oh, Well, that was a terrible Halloween for them!
