The Ghosts in the School

3rd Grade, 1st Place

by Alianna Pair,

Every time I walk in the school I feel an evil chill. Every time I walk by someone people always are talking about the two ghosts Rosemary and Elizabeth who taunt the school. They are always looking for a new friend to play with in the basement. Legend has it the ghosts strike mostly on Halloween. One day I asked my teacher if I could use the restroom. I went into the restroom and I just realized it was Halloween. I was washing my hands. I saw Rosemary and Elizabeth on the wall. They both said softly, “Come play with us” and then they faded away.

Later that day at recess I was telling my friend Natale about seeing the ghosts. I was the first one to really see them. I was terrified. I explained to her that I ran out of the bathroom before they could hypnotize me. If they hypnotized me, I would start hypnotizing other people by touching them. Before long everyone would be hypnotized and no one would ever escape the school.

Later at lunch everyone was talking about the Halloween Bash that was happening soon. I was going as Rosemary and Natale was going to be Elizabeth.

At the Halloween Bash we were nervously excited because we knew it was Halloween and Rosemary and Elizabeth strike mostly then. Suddenly we heard something. As we looked in the hall we saw Rosemary and Elizabeth skipping in the hall saying softly, “lalalalalalalala” repeatedly. We didn’t want to tell anyone so we did not ruin their fun but it was too late. Rosemary and Elizabeth were holding hands headed up to the stage. Softly they said, “come play with us hehehehe”. Everyone screamed and ran. No one ran into the basement since everyone knew that Rosemary and Elizabeth wanted a friend to play with in the basement. Rosemary and Elizabeth touched my teacher by surprise. We watched and were scared. My teacher was hypnotized and started to say, “lalala” over and over again just like Rosemary and Elizabeth. We rushed to the front office and we told the principal about what was happening .Me Natale and the principal were looking around the school but we saw nothing. Then Rosemary and Elizabeth were right behind us. We ran away but not in the same direction. We were all splitting up.

While running to the cafeteria Natale thought “if Rosemary and Elizabeth taunt the school would they be able to get out?”. Natale called me from a phone and told me an idea. We needed to quickly grab the mega phone and tell everyone to evacuate the school and not to let Rosemary and Elizabeth touch them.. Everybody ran out of the school. Rosemary and Elizabeth kept repeating softly, “come back and play with us”. After we got out everybody went back to their homes except my teacher who became Rosemary and Elizabeth’s friend to play with in the basement. The teacher was never seen again.
