“Monster Bash”
by Wren Davis
It started out as a strange day when the cafeteria ran out of coleslaw, which is quite strange because it’s really gross! On my way home from school there was no one outside. You could not hear a sound, not even Mrs. Johnson’s dog. I was not surprised because strange things tend to happen on Halloween day near my street, but that day got even stranger when I saw a little bat wearing a cape. I was very interested, so I followed him into the woods and he led me to a wall. Just a wall, no house, no nothing. I peeked behind it without being seen by the bat. There was nothing there. Suddenly, the bat disappeared through a door. I thought It led to the other side of the wall , but when I peeked through, it led to a cave. I quickly slipped through. Then I began to think, what have I gotten myself into!
All of a sudden I saw a mummy talking to a skeleton. I hastily hid behind a rock and listened, too stunned to think. Skeleton’s were supposed to be dead, so were mummies. I could faintly hear they were talking about a Halloween party. All this time I was wondering where the bat went. Then I felt cold eyes looking at me. I peered back and there he was looking straight at me. I was too scared to move, and then the bat began to speak. He said, “Hail”! Huh? Then the mummy walked over and said, “Hi, welcome to the cave we have been expecting you”. “I am Bri,” said the mummy. “And I am Tiny. Tiny the bat”. “Woah, woah, woah. Slow down. You don’t want to hurt me?” I asked. “No never, we just want to invite you to our party,” said Bri. “Wait, why?” I questioned. “Well we monsters have always wanted to meet a human and become their friends. So here is your invitation to the party” and she handed me a gold lettered card. “It is going to be awesome,” said Tiny. “What time is it?” Tiny chimed in. I looked at my watch and it read six o’clock. “Oh no,” said Tiny. “We have to go. Follow me,” said Bri. Then all of the sudden I heard a roar of music and we were there! Lights shone of all colors and all kinds of monsters danced. Vaulted ceilings rose and lifted up the giant stone walls of the big coliseum. I will never forget that day, when monsters and humans became friends!
