4th Grade, 2nd Place
by Charlotte Cummings,
In 1685, a ship set sail. It set sail on September 16th from the Pacific Ocean. The captain and crew planned to sail to the Atlantic Ocean. After an hour or two of sailing the captain said to the passengers that there was a storm up ahead. When the storm hit, a little boy around the age of four fell overboard. His mother went after him! The people on the ship looked
and looked for him but didn’t see them. Passengers started to jump off the ship to find the women and her son. Before you knew it everybody was off the ship, even the captain. The storm produced huge waves. No one was able to swim in the waves and everyone on that ship drowned. The boat sank and no one ever saw the people or the ship ever again.
5 years later
There was a little girl who was ten when the ship had sunk. Her dad was the captain of that ship and when he never came back, she was heartbroken. Ever since the accident she hasn’t been the same. She wanted to know what had happened that night. She set out to find the answers to her questions. The next night she packed all of her belongings and left; she didn’t know how long she would be gone.
When she was five her dad surprised her with a hand made boat… now it would come into use. About an hour into her trip, she saw something sticking out of the water. She remembered that she had packed a scuba diving suit. Once she had the diving suit on, she dropped down the anchor and jumped in the water. She swam for a little while searching for any clues. She saw something! As she got closer, she realized what she saw was her dad’s ship. She found her dad’s watch and took it back with her. She swam to the surface of the ocean to put her dad’s watch in the boat. She swam back
down to see what else she could find. She swam to the other side of the ship and found all the passengers who had drowned. They were all there…at least three hundred thirty-six bodies. One of them was her dad. As she swam, she saw tons of shimmering things ahead of her. As she got closer, she realized the shimmering things were the souls of all of the people who had drowned. They were in the shape of a triangle and the person at the point of the triangle was the captain. In her eyes he was her dad. When she got closer, she could see her dad clearly. She swam as fast as she could to try and hug him, but then she realized he was a ghost. She was almost out of air, so she tried to get back to the boat. She didn’t make it. She drowned…
Her dad’s ghost swam to her as fast as he could. Three feet before he got to her, the girl’s soul left her body. Now she is part of the triangle. The triangle keeps growing and growing as people drown. The girl’s mother ended up becoming a part of the triangle. She died the same way her husband and daughter died…. she drowned. The girl was 15 when she died. Her family is finally back together again. All of their souls are together forever.
